The American Foreverwar

“One land, two armies, no victory.”

The American Foreverwar refers to the centuries-long conflict waged across the fractured region of Dixie by the foreign superpowers of Amazonia and Cordoba. While it officially began in the early Age of Dominion, the war has persisted—with no formal declaration, no treaty, and no permanent lines drawn—for over 500 years. Its name reflects both the endless nature of the fighting and the hopeless entrenchment of the region’s devastation.

Origins

Following the Shardisite-fueled rise of global powers in the later years of the Age of Nations, the fertile and resource-rich territories of West America became a prime target for foreign expansion. Once home to diverse cultures, natural wealth, and considerable Shardisite deposits, the region quickly fractured under pressure from outside interests.

Amazonia launched early campaigns from their foothold in Cuba, establishing outposts across the northern coast. Meanwhile, Cordoba struck from the southwest, pushing up through the shattered remains of the Gulf coast. Though initially framed as "resource stabilization efforts," both campaigns soon escalated into full-scale militarized occupation.

The Conflict

Unlike traditional wars, the American Foreverwar is defined by:

  • Shifting frontlines and tactical stalemates
  • Periodic advances followed by long attritional stalemates
  • The deployment of airships, automatons, and Arcanotech weaponry
  • The use of proxy mercenary groups, private armies, and corporate militias
  • Total disregard for civilian life and infrastructure

The fighting has **flattened entire cities**, poisoned vast stretches of land, and left behind a region so torn that governance is almost impossible.

The Land

Dixie is now a patchwork of:

  • Bombed-out ghost cities
  • Chemical wastelands and corrupted rivers
  • Roaming mutant warbands and displaced civilian enclaves
  • Trenches, fortresses, and ever-burning conflict zones

Entire generations have been born and died knowing nothing but war. Shardisite contamination is rampant, and most surviving residents of the region are mutated, desperate, or utterly indifferent to foreign claims.

The Combatants

Amazonia controls the north through massive airpower, biological enhancements, and mechanized infantry. Their capital, Petrolina, lies far from the frontlines, but their propaganda machines continuously broadcast images of "glorious reclamation."

Cordoba dominates the south and west, favoring precision engineering, alchemical warfare, and deep intelligence networks. Operating from Conception, they claim to be the true liberators of West America—despite deploying some of the most brutal tactics of the war.

Each side accuses the other of war crimes. Both are correct.

Current Status

By the modern era (~2100 A.M.), the Foreverwar has become a self-perpetuating machine—fed by politics, corruption, greed, and tradition. A large swath of West America is largely uninhabitable outside of fortified cities like Savannah, the lawless capital of Dixie, and rare industrial havens in Cascadia or Quebec.

The war no longer seeks victory. It seeks continuity. Peace would be too expensive.

Legacy

The American Foreverwar has:

  • Destabilized an entire continent
  • Enabled the rise of corporate militaries and freelance warlords worldwide
  • Fed a global arms economy tied to Shardisite exports and archanotech weaponry
  • Mutated entire populations beyond recognition

It is a war remembered by no living victor, mourned by no lasting state, and profited from by those far removed from the ashes it leaves behind.
