Nebish
Zahk’k’kharr, Nebish, grew up in the high mountains of Nepal. As a child he did not have contact with the outside world and had never seen a walker until after he was forced from his home.
While still a very young Aarakocra Nebish was taught to fear the Vrock that sometimes preyed upon Aarakocra aeries. The Vrock would kill all hatched Aarakocra that were not able to flee and steal the nests eggs.
Nebish’s parents were killed in such an attack. He witnessed his father fighting the Vrock and when his father fell Nebish took up his father’s sword. Nebish was, however, not a fighter and the Vrock easily sundered the sword and tossed Nebish aside. Before what Nebish was certain was death could take him, he smashed the clutch of eggs that was in the nest.
Nebish was surprised to awaken the next morning. He had been told that the Vrock never left any survivors. His surprise turned to horror when he saw the shattered eggs of his pre-hatchling siblings. Immediately their voices rose up, accusingly, in his mind. In the nest he also found his father’s broken sword and a Vrock tail feather. His home destroyed and defiled, Nebish gathered the skulls of his dead siblings, his father’s sword, and the Vrock feather and flew down from the high mountains.
The first walkers he encountered was a group of Tabaxi entertainers. Although they seemed welcoming at first and took him in, the first night, as a drunken prank, the leader clipped Nebish’s wings so that he could not fly until the feathers molted and grew back. In his time trapped with the Tabaxi Nebish witnessed them be thieves and cons, stealing eggs from small farms and selling false treasures in small towns around the countryside. Eventually he escaped his captors and flew off into the forest.
In the forests he met an old Ranger the treated him kindly and taught him his ways. The man died shortly after passing on the secrets of being a Ranger, and on his death bed, told Nebish to go to the world of men to have his father’s sword repaired, seek the Vrock that had killed his parents, and be free of his demons.
