Wormholes
Some time after the infusion of magic into the world, strange phenomena started popping in and out of existence around the world. These phenomena were discovered to be wormholes. Wildly unpredictable and unstable, these wormholes seem to create bridges which can span great distances as well as bridges to completely unknown places. Not much is known about what creates these bridges other than they seem to appear more frequently around large concentrations of the magical mineral Shardisite, that hasn't stopped enterprising entrepreneurs from capitalizing on their usefulness. Typically, a wormhole can last for weeks but being wildly unstable they sometimes are only stable for a few hours.
Enterprising explorers and guilds have taken up the very lucrative practice of mapping these these temporary wormhole connections and selling route information to traders and travelers. The most successful among the organisations being The Guild of Wayfarers.
Erehwon
While most wormholes are bridges between different places on the earth, every now and then these wormholes bridge to a completely alien world. The Guild of Wayfarers have named this place Erehwon. A strange and wondrous place, exploration of Erehwon is one of the last true frontiers for daring explorers. While alien and extremely dangerous, The Guild of Wayfarers has been able to establish and maintain a permanent floating outpost among it's clouds.
In-game Mechanics
During downtime while traveling the DM rolls a d100 once per day. On any result above 95, a wormhole will randomly appear in front of the party. If the result is from 95 - 99, the wormhole connects to a random location on Earth. On a result of 100, the wormhole connects to a random location on Erewhon.
