(GRIL-dis DRUM-ee)

Grilldis Drummy was hatched in the industrial river-city of Düsseldorf, Europa, the son of a dockworker father and a seamstress mother who scraped their wages together in the shadow of the city's massive arcanotech refineries. From his earliest years, Grilldis was transfixed by the sight of Europan military formations drilling in the civic squares — the disciplined rows, the polished brass, the absolute certainty of purpose that military bearing projected. For a young Aarakocra raised on the fringes of the working class, the uniform represented something his upbringing could not offer: legitimacy. He enlisted the morning he came of age and never looked back.

Grilldis proved a natural soldier — tactically sharp, physically formidable in aerial engagements, and fiercely loyal to the men and women under his command. His career advanced steadily until he was granted his own command: a light sloop operating out of Prague, tasked with escort and interdiction missions along the Europan interior supply lines. The command lasted eighteen months before a court martial ended it. During a contested extraction, Grilldis broke formation and deviated from mission parameters to recover a crew member left behind in hostile territory. The soldier survived. The mission did not. He was stripped of his command, demoted, and reassigned to the Nightingale auxiliary forces — a posting widely understood to be a punishment detail.

Service under the Nightingales provided Grilldis with an education he had not sought. What had once appeared to him as the apex of Europan military discipline revealed itself as something considerably darker — an organization whose relationship with the Legion ran deeper than any chain of command he had sworn loyalty to. He tolerated the assignment with the grim patience of a career soldier waiting for an exit. The revolution provided one. When the ground assault on the Nightingale Estate reached its violent climax, Grilldis crossed the line and did not cross back. He fought on the side of the vanguard, and when the smoke cleared, he had no army left to return to — only the people he had chosen to stand with instead.
